Yazmin Oukhellou reveals she considered taking her own life after domestic abuse

Yazmin Oukehllou has revealed she once considered taking her own life after falling victim to domestic abuse.

Former The Only Way Is Essex star Yazmin, 27, opened up to fans as she announced the launch of her wellness retreat in the UK, following the success of her retreat in Marrakech, Morocco, in the hopes it will help women in similar situations she found herself in.

Yazmin got candid with fans in a video shared on her Instagram page and explained how she hoped the retreat would help women suffering from domestic abuse as it was a “subject that’s really close to my heart”.

She explains in the clip: “At the time when your family and friends don’t understand it and you want a way out when people are like: ‘Why do you keep going back to this person’ and all you can do is look it up through YouTube videos.

“I wanted to create a safe environment for women like myself where you can come for a week and we can really help you get out of that situation or get over that situation.

“It’s something I couldn’t find myself. But, if I could help just one woman in the same situation then I feel like I’ve used my platform for the greater good.”

Yaz added that she felt her “dream and purpose” in life was to open the retreat.

“This is what I’ve been made to do,” she added in the clip and said she looked forward to helping women become “strong, confident boss women” with her new venture.

As Yaz posted the video on her Instagram page, she wrote in the caption: “I have been a victim of domestic abuse. Physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

“I haven’t been ready to speak about it until now but I feel that what has happened to me, as hard as this is to say, it’s like this has happened for a reason. So that I can now use my platform for good and help as many of you as I can going through the same as what I did.

“I was left battered, bruised, fearing for my life on so many occasions and even contemplating ending my own life where I felt so worthless and I just couldn’t see a way out.

“I was blackmailed with private photos, beaten up, belittled, made to feel crazy, cheated on and isolated from my family and friends. I now look back and cannot believe how I stayed for so long and how I allowed myself to be treated so terribly.

“Now I am out of it and can see clearly again because anyone in a situation like I was will know what I mean when I say you feel as if your brain feels fuzzy like your not even really here but you are it’s the strangest feeling.

“I look back and think how did I put up with that torture for so long. Making out to the world, my family and friends that I had the perfect life when the reality was worse than you could ever imagine.

“I’ve now created a program with a team of experts to help you so that you don’t have to suffer or be glued to YouTube videos on “how to get out of an abusive relationship” like I was or constantly arguing with your friends and family when they say “just leave him” yet you don’t even understand why it’s not that easy for you to just leave.

“I only left when it got so bad and my face was so battered, bloodied and bruised that I knew the next time this happened my parents wouldn’t have their little girl anymore. It was then something in me snapped and I knew that I did NOT deserve this torture anymore and that it was NOT my fault even though I was “mouthy” or didn’t “think before you speak”.

She continued: “After having intense therapy and speaking out to my friends and family I decided that this would now become my purpose to share my story and help so many of you going through something similar and help you get out and build you back up to YOU again.

“We are not taught this in schools or the signs to look for on how we can be manipulated and conditioned into these situations or even taught self love and self worth. This is now my mission.

“I have rebranded the retreat from “Marrakech” to “Worldwide” because this is in fact the goal for me to help stop domestic violence and teach self love and worth, WORLDWIDE. The LINK is in my bio. Sending so much love to you all and please be kind as this really has taken a lot for me to finally share.”
