Safiyya Vorajee has spoken of the emotional moment she first saw the necklace she designed in honor of her daughter Azaylia.
It’s been nearly a year since Safiyya and Ashley Cain tragically lost their eight month old daughter Azaylia following an arduous battle with leukemia.
The grieving parents have fought tirelessly to help other families and children fighting cancer with The Azaylia Foundation, which captures Azaylia’s spirit with the “little lion” logo.
Safiyya has now worked with Abbott Lyon for International Women’s Month where she has created a “personal” and “beautiful” collection to honor her daughter with The Azaylia Foundation Necklace.

The necklace features the fearless little lion icon, which captures the “strength” and “bravery” of children fighting cancer, and the charity logo on the back with 100% of sales going to the The Azaylia Foundation.
Talking about seeing the necklace and collection in person for the first time, Safiyya said she cried as they were all so “carefully designed” and “personalized”.
She said: “I actually felt very emotional and I kept having lumps in my throat as I was doing it because it’s something that is so close to my heart and I’m very passionate about.
“It made me feel emotional bringing the ideas into reality and it actually made me cry when I saw them in person as they were so carefully designed and personalized. So beautiful.”
Speaking about the design process behind The Azaylia Foundation Necklace, Safiyya said that it was important to use the lion logo to show “strength, courage and bravery”.
She said: “We wanted to keep it clean and represent the foundation in such a tasteful way and we started by using the circle as a circle of life. The lion to show the strength, courage and fearless bravery that these children show every single day .
“Then on the opposite side we’ve got the text of The Azaylia Foundation and that was to give a nod to the charity and to support the children.”
Safiyya added: “The lion means to me a number of different things really from strength, courage, passion, loyalty, fierce, an all rounder of hope.
“With a lion it just shows that lions are fierce and they’re strong. Me and Azaylia are both Leos as well, we’re both lions!”
Safiyya hopes that the The Azaylia Foundation Necklace will act as a “symbol of strength” for anyone struggling or feeling weak in their life.
Talking about the support from her friends and family for the collection, she said: “They are literally bugging me every day: ‘When’s the necklace going to be ready!’
“They cannot wait to wear the necklace with pride and I feel like when somebody’s struggling, they can hold the necklace and kind of do a prayer when they’re feeling weak.
“For me, not only does it symbolize the lion with the strength and The Azaylia Foundation, I feel like it’s something to hold onto if you’re spiritually connected, make a wish or hold on.
“Or if your child is going through something, if you’re just struggling with your mental health, it’s just a symbol of strength to have on you.”
As well as the The Azaylia Foundation Necklace, Safiyya praised the rest of the “beautiful” collection, which features orange love hearts to represent children’s leukemia, personalized necklaces and birth stones.
Safiyya said: “Obviously for me, I love carrying anything with Azaylia’s name on it. So for me, that was just so beautiful to have initials and the names. Also the birth stone for me, me and Azaylia share the same birth stone, which is the green one as a Leo, lions.”
With the collection being launched as part of International Women’s Month, Safiyya said that she will always continue to empower women and that she will always give people even strength when they are at “rock bottom”.
She said: “Being a woman and a mother is powerful. I love empowering women to believe in themselves to have faith and to never give up no matter how tough it gets.

“As women, we can tend to find ourselves feeling quite vulnerable in different situations. The most beautiful thing that I’ve been doing a hell of a lot has been really lifting women up when I’m seeing them.”
Safiyya said that she recently bumped into a lady at the supermarket who lost her child on the same ward as Azaylia and that she burst into tears.
She recalled: “We were both there, just holding that woman, hugging her and feeling those emotions and empowering her, making her feel strong again.
“There’s a lot of things that women are actually looking to me for and to give them strength, to believe in themselves when you’re at rock bottom, to get back up again is definitely something I will always continue to do for women.”
