Charlotte Church blasted Nigel Farage in Brexit row: ‘You piece of s***!’ | CelebrityNews | Showbiz & TV

Kate Garraway’s Life Stories will welcome guest Charlotte Church tonight on ITV. The singer discusses her rise to fame at the age of 12, and becoming one of Britain’s highest earning celebrities. Charlotte also opens up about her turbulent love life. While known for her music, Charlotte also raised eyebrows in 2016 when she made a furious Brexit intervention.

The Welsh singer backed Remain, and was unhappy when the country ultimately decided to leave the EU.

When prominent Brexiteer Nigel Farage announced he was to resign as UKIP leader, Charlotte wasn’t pleased.

She tweeted in reply to a video of Farage saying: “I want me f***ing European Union back you piece of s***!!!!!”

Mr Farage said he was stepping down, saying: “I want my life back.”

Charlotte’s tweet sparked a big debate on social media, but she also received a lot of abuse, which she highlighted at the time.

She tweeted: “A lot of hate on here today. I understand that this is a very divisive time but I’m shocked at the level of and type of abuse I’ve had today.”

Piers Morgan replied to this, saying: “Says a woman who’s spent the last few days calling politicians ‘bastards’ & pieces of s***’.

Charlotte later admitted that she could have taken a different approach.

She said: “Maybe I shouldn’t have lowered myself to calling Farage names but the messages of abuse and threats I’m getting on here are horrifying.

“I will be reporting them to the police. I understand many of us have different opinions on this but let’s try and stem this swell of hate. I will heed my own advice, but I find Farage very difficult to understand/ have any positive feelings for.”

In 2016, Charlotte spoke to Refinery29 magazine, and explained why she was a fan of Jeremy Corbyn.

She said: “If you say somebody’s unelectable enough times, you make them unelectable. I am so f***ing fed up with the mainstream media – the propaganda is doing my head in.

“I don’t know; it’s all a massive shower of s***. I think he’s wonderful. He has conducted himself with great integrity, and I’d like my leader to be somebody who isn’t a mad, egotistical person spinning rhetoric and saying empty soundbites, like Farage or Cameron or any of the other tools.

“You’d think that after Leveson, the media would have to be a bit fairer, and not so biased. But I think it’s all got worse.”

At the time, Theresa May had just taken over as Prime Minister, and Charlotte branded the new leader a “disappointment.”

She added: “Theresa May is a massive disappointment. As a fellow woman, I’m disappointed in her for being such a meany!

“I just think she’s Maggie Thatcher mark two. And her cabinet is the whitest, malest thing I’ve seen in a long time.

“I would like more women in politics but if you really do care and want to make a change, it’s a tough place to be. There are loads more fun things to do in life! But it is so important. Maybe I’ll do some years of service when I’m a bit older.”

During the pandemic, she also revealed that she isn’t a huge fan or Boris Johnson either.

In June 2020, Charlotte criticized the Government’s plan to reopen classrooms for reception, year 1 and year 6 students.

She said politicians and the Government didn’t care about the wellbeing of children.

Charlotte tweeted: “Highly recommend if you can help it, not sending your children back to school tomorrow.

“This Government doesn’t give a flying f*** about you, your children, your elders or your vulnerable.”
