‘Amazing’ family run Woolton furniture business whose customers include Liverpool FC legend

A small, family run business is making waves with its “amazing” bespoke furniture, handcrafted in Woolton.

Eve and Neil Raffle, from Liverpool, launched Bespoke Barrels and Bars three years ago after feeling the “desire to do something different”.

The couple’s creations see ex-whiskey barrels restored and transformed into beautiful, striking pieces of furniture. The company creates a range of stylish and practical items from the barrels, including planters, tables, cabinets, custom built bars, clocks and much more.

Mum-of-three Eve, 41, told the ECHO : “The business idea came about about three years ago from a love of wood-working and a desire to do something different. Neil used to run a landscaping business for around 20 years.

“We lovingly restore ex whiskey barrels and totally transform them, giving them a new lease of life.”

The company took off and rapidly grew in popularity in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, with many people taking the opportunity to spruce up the homes they were spending more and more time in. Others wanted their own home bars to enjoy while clubs and pubs remained closed during lockdown.

For the Raffles, running their own business has proven to be a joyous experience. Eve continued: “Our furniture became popular during lockdown and everybody started to want their own home bars.

“Running our own business is very rewarding – we love being creative, taking something old and totally transforming it into stunning pieces of furniture.

“We love that people really love our stuff and it’s always great to hear amazing feedback on how much people really love and appreciate our work.”

Bespoke Barrels and Bars has received high praise online, with one reviewer awarding it five stars, penning: “Amazing company. Their craftsmanship and customer service is second to none. I would highly recommend to anyone.

“Quality bespoke furniture and the Christmas reindeer they do as well are just adorable and very popular.”

Another reviewer gave the company top marks and said: “Thank you so much for our amazing bar. The quality of service and the barrel is outstanding, can’t thank you enough. It has made our garden house so special and we would recommend you [to] everyone.”

Former Liverpool footballer John Aldridge recently purchased one of the couple’s barrels, complete with Liverpool’s crest as an homage to his time as a record-breaking striker for the club in the late 1980s.

Eve and Neil run the company between them, with Eve handling the admin and customer service side of the business and keen wood-worker Neil making all the products.

They have been amazed by the community support they’ve received in Woolton.

Eve said: “Woolton is a great community. We like to give back to the local community – recently planters were stolen from Woolton village [and] being a business in the village, we wanted to help and donated some of our barrel planters to replace them. We try and help out Woolton in bloom whenever we can.

“We get lots of great comments about our barrel furniture from family, friends and our customers – people are always amazed at what we can create. The legend John Aldridge recently bought one of our barrel bars.”

“We love being creative, taking something old and totally transforming it into stunning pieces of furniture.”

Of their plans for the future, Eve hopes their business will continue to flourish.

She added: “We hope that in the future our business can continue to grow, employ more local people and contribute more to the local economy and local community.”
