Why Network Marketers Shouldn’t Use The Company System!

This post is a continuation of my series on why it’s so important to attribute some time to building a personal brand. The first post was about increasing the ‘Versatility’ of your online business (view that here) and the second was protecting your livelihood (Click here).

Today I want to speak particularly to network marketers. As a network marketer, its easy to get caught up in the whole ‘systems’ approach.. that the system will do it for you. Systems have a place and Justine and I certainly have systems in place… BUT to rely on a company system to ‘educate’ your leads about an opportunity is to completely take YOU out of the equation (unless of course the ‘system’ is customisable and very few are).   

This is disadvantageous for a number of reasons:

1. People  ‘sponsor shop’… ie they look at the company presentation and then Google the company’s top producer or most visible consultant and you just lost the sale. It’s not that you weren’t good enough to coach and mentor them, it’s just that you didn’t have a personal brand or any public recognition…

2. You are financially beholden to that system or company presentation. Justine and I have been part of company’s where we have cringed at the company presentation and sales funnel… but without a personal brand what could you do? It was lucky we were on leadership and had the skill to go and build our own funnels. This is one of the key points we are making through SpunkeBusiness... that is… the top producers in your company are NOT using the company resources (business presentation, sales funnel etc). They have their own that brands them. We are not advocating you go and do this… but we are passionate about encouraging you to have a personal brand out there that isn’t reliant on your company, so that when people Google YOU,  they will find a person with obvious skills in your area…

3. The company ‘System’ generally only brands the people in it!  And unless you’re in it… it’s like… who are you that you weren’t good enough to be in your own promo materials.

SOLUTION: By all means use your company system (our company’s system for example is highly customisable… so there is no need to build additional funnels and presentations!) BUT, be aware at the same time of BUILDING YOUR PERSONAL BRAND… so that people won’t like the opportunity, but not like you, because they couldn’t find you and trust you….
